Just saw a news story about a homeowner in Texas who got slammed with hail damage, and when they filed a claim, turns out their deductible for wind and hail was way higher than they thought. Apparently, it's like a separate deductible based on percentage of the home's insured value instead of the flat fee they're used to. I honestly had no idea this was even a thing, and now I'm wondering if my own policy has something similar hiding in the fine print.

I mean, insurance is already confusing enough without sneaky clauses popping up after a storm wrecks your roof. Makes me wonder how many people actually know about this or if it's just me being clueless... wouldn't be the first time lol. Curious if anyone else has dealt with this or heard any other stories about surprise deductibles after storms? Seems kinda sketchy imo, but maybe it's standard practice and I'm just late to the party.

• First-time homeowner here, and yeah, insurance is a maze I wasn't prepared for either.
• Found out mine also had a sneaky percentage deductible after a neighbor's tree landed on my fence during a storm... fun times.
• Best advice: call your agent and straight-up ask about wind/hail deductibles specifically—saved me from more nasty surprises later.
• Honestly, feels like insurance companies bank on us newbies not reading the fine print.
