So my roof got pretty beat up after that storm last week, and now I'm dealing with insurance. Thing is, I'm kinda confused about how the deductible works when hiring roofers. Anyone been through this before or got tips?

- Deductible's just the amount you pay out-of-pocket before insurance kicks in.
- Roofers usually factor it into their quote, but double-check that.
- Had mine done last year...did your insurance send an adjuster yet?

Had an adjuster out a couple years back when a tree decided to give my roof an unexpected hug. Pretty straightforward process, but honestly, the deductible part always felt like insurance companies' sneaky way of saying, "Hey, we're helping... but not THAT much." Roofers did factor it into my estimate too, but I made the mistake of assuming they all do that—my neighbor learned the hard way that isn't always the case. Ended up paying more than he planned because the deductible wasn't included in his quote. Ouch.

Speaking of adjusters, anyone else's adjuster seem overly suspicious? Mine poked around like he was looking for buried treasure or something. Kept asking questions about previous repairs, storms from years ago... felt like I was on trial for roof neglect. How'd yours go?

I've worked with a lot of homeowners dealing with insurance claims, and honestly, adjusters being thorough isn't always a bad thing. Sure, it feels like an interrogation sometimes, but they're just covering their bases—insurance fraud is pretty common, unfortunately. Also, just a heads-up: roofers factoring in your deductible isn't actually standard practice everywhere. Always double-check if your quote explicitly includes it to avoid surprises later... seen plenty of folks caught off guard by that one.

Good points made above, especially about the deductible confusion. I've inspected plenty of roofs after storms, and one thing I've noticed is homeowners often assume the deductible gets paid directly to the roofer. Usually, you pay that amount out-of-pocket, and insurance covers the rest. Also, watch out for roofers offering to "waive" your deductible—sounds tempting, but it's actually illegal in many places and can land you in trouble down the line. Better safe than sorry with this stuff...
