Had another storm roll through last night and, surprise surprise, woke up to that annoying drip-drip sound again. I'm seriously thinking it's time to upgrade the roof. Been looking into shingles and metal roofing, but I'm kinda torn. Shingles seem cheaper upfront, but metal roofs supposedly last way longer and handle storms better. Anyone here switched from shingles to metal or vice versa? Curious about your experiences and if it was worth the extra cost...
I've been working with roofs a while now, and honestly, metal roofs can be great, but they're not always the miracle solution people make them out to be. My uncle switched from shingles to metal about five years ago, and yeah, the leaking stopped, but now he complains about noise during heavy rains. Have you thought about insulation or soundproofing options too? Might wanna factor that into your costs before diving in...
Totally agree on the noise issueβmetal roofs def amplify rain sounds. Couple things I've noticed:
- Thicker insulation layers under the metal help a lot.
- Textured metal panels seem quieter than smooth ones.
- Adding attic ventilation can reduce condensation noise too.
Worth thinking about before making the switch...
