"does anyone know if hail dents become a big issue over time?"

Good question—I've managed properties with metal roofs that've seen their fair share of hailstorms. Honestly, minor dents are mostly cosmetic and don't usually cause structural issues. But...if you're picky about appearances, they can start looking pretty rough after a few seasons. Ever seen a car after a hailstorm? Same vibe. Still, I'd take some dents over leaks and missing shingles any day. Has anyone actually had dents turn into bigger headaches later on?

I've dealt with a few metal roofs after hailstorms, and yeah, dents are mostly just cosmetic. But one thing to watch out for is if the paint or coating gets chipped—it can lead to rust spots down the line. Had this happen on a shed roof once...small dents turned into rusty patches after a couple rainy seasons. So I'd say keep an eye on any deeper dents or scratches, maybe touch them up early if you notice paint damage.

Had a similar issue with dents on my garage roof after a nasty hailstorm a few years back. At first, seemed like no big deal—just cosmetic, right? But turns out one of the bigger dents actually warped the metal slightly, making a tiny gap where water started pooling. Didn't notice until months later when a leak popped up inside. Definitely worth checking deeper dents closely, especially if you get heavy rains often. Small touch-ups early really save headaches later.

Yeah, dents can be sneaky like that. I've seen cases where homeowners thought it was just minor cosmetic stuff, but underneath was a whole different story. Metal roofs are generally pretty sturdy, but once they're compromised even slightly, water finds its way in surprisingly fast. Did you end up patching it yourself or hire someone? I'm always curious how DIY-friendly metal roof repairs actually are... seems straightforward until you're up there balancing tools and sealant tubes, haha.

Haha, exactly my experience. Metal roof repairs are doable DIY-wise, but you've gotta prep right. I found it helps to have everything laid out beforehand—tools, sealant, patches—so you're not fumbling around up there. Also, pick a calm day; wind makes things way trickier than you'd think. But yeah, dents can fool you... good on you for catching it early before it turned into a bigger headache.
