how can you tell if the installer messed up?

Hypothetically, say you just got a new appliance or fixture installed at home, and something just feels... off. Like maybe it wobbles a bit, or there's a weird noise that wasn't there before. Or maybe it looks fine but you're not totally convinced it's done right, you know? Um, how would you guys figure out if the installer actually did a sloppy job or if you're just being paranoid?

I think your concern is completely valid. From my experience, if something feels off after installation, there's usually a reason behind it. I've dealt with plenty of cases where homeowners initially doubted themselves, only to find out later that their instincts were spot-on.

First thing I'd suggest is to carefully observe the appliance or fixture over a couple of days. Sometimes, when you're just looking at something day-to-day, it's easy to second-guess yourself or overlook small changes. Another thing—if you're noticing vibrations or noises, try checking the surrounding area too. I've seen cases where an appliance was installed fine, but the installer accidentally loosened or shifted something nearby (like cabinetry or trim). It might seem unrelated at first, but these little things can amplify sounds or vibrations.

Yeah, rattling noises are usually a dead giveaway something's loose. I've seen this happen a lot with ceiling fans—installers sometimes rush and don't balance the blades properly. If you're noticing wobbling or weird noises, it's worth double-checking the mounting screws or brackets.
