Haha, glad I'm not the only one who finds rain on metal roofs soothing... puts me right to sleep. But yeah, metal roofing can be pricey upfront, no doubt. Have you checked into the long-term savings though? Lower insurance premiums are just one perk—metal roofs usually last way longer and need fewer repairs overall. I've seen asphalt roofs get pretty torn up after storms, meaning more frequent claims, and insurance companies aren't exactly fans of that.

Just curious, have you talked directly with your insurance agent to see exactly how much you'd save annually? Sometimes just having those numbers in front of you helps make the decision easier. Also, depending on your area, some insurers offer bigger discounts if you're in a region prone to hail or wind damage. Might be worth asking around before ruling metal out completely.

We switched to metal roofing about 8 years ago after a nasty hailstorm shredded our asphalt shingles. Honestly, the upfront cost stung a bit, but the insurance savings have been noticeable—about 15% annually for us. Plus, haven't had to file a single claim since, even with some pretty rough weather. Definitely talk to your agent directly; ours gave us exact numbers beforehand, which made the decision clearer. And yeah, rain on metal roofs...best sleep ever.

- Interesting to hear you're seeing such noticeable insurance savings with metal roofing. I've seen mixed experiences, so it's good to know it's working out for some.
- Curious though—did your insurance agent mention anything about cosmetic exclusions for hail damage? I've heard some insurers won't cover dents if they're purely cosmetic, even if the roof is technically still okay.
- Also wondering if anyone has experience with noise levels during heavy storms beyond just rain. Like, is it louder during hail or strong winds compared to asphalt shingles?
- On a side note, I totally get the sleep thing. Rain on a metal roof is practically ASMR...

I've actually heard the opposite about noise levels. My neighbor switched to metal roofing last year, and during a hailstorm, he said it sounded like someone was throwing gravel at his house—definitely louder than asphalt shingles. He got used to it eventually, but it's something to consider if you're sensitive to noise. Also, good point about cosmetic exclusions; I've seen insurers get picky about minor dents even if the roof's structurally fine...

That's a fair point about the noise—metal roofs can definitely amplify hail impacts, especially if there's minimal insulation or attic space buffering the sound. I've seen cases where homeowners added extra insulation or soundproofing materials underneath, and it made a noticeable difference. You're also spot-on about cosmetic exclusions; insurers often scrutinize minor dents closely, even if they're purely aesthetic. It's always smart to clarify exactly what's covered beforehand to avoid surprises later on.
