I totally get the worry about overdoing it. I’ve had adjusters nitpick my photos too, especially if they’re a few months old. I just snap pics after big storms or if I notice something off—otherwise, it feels like too much. As long as you’ve got a decent timeline, you’re probably more prepared than most.

That’s fair, though I kinda wonder if we’re all underestimating how picky insurance companies can get. I’ve had them ask for super recent photos before, and it’s annoying when you think you’re covered but suddenly they want “proof” of what your roof looked like last week. Not saying everyone needs to catalog every shingle, but a quarterly photo might not be overkill, especially with crazy weather getting more common.

I switched to a metal roof last year, partly because the adjuster drama was getting old. It was pricier up front, but the warranty is way longer, and supposedly less hassle with claims. Honestly, I still snap pics after hail or wind, just in case.

Curious if anyone’s insurer actually accepted older photos without pushback? Or is this just standard now? Feels like the bar keeps moving...

- Had the same issue last year—insurer wanted “recent” pics, but mine were from six months back. They grumbled but took them after I pointed out the date stamps.

“the bar keeps moving...”
Yeah, feels like every renewal they want something new.
- Metal roof here too. Expensive up front, but less drama so far. Still snap pics after storms—old habits die hard.
- Honestly, quarterly photos sound like overkill, but with these companies? Can’t blame anyone for playing it safe.
- Only real pushback I got was when there was obvious storm damage and my photos were too old. Otherwise, they just sigh and process it.
- At this point, I treat my roof like a pet—check on it more than I probably need to...

- Insurers keep moving the goalposts—used to be “just a few pics,” now it’s date stamps, then drone shots next?
- Had a claim denied once because my photos were from before a hailstorm, not after. Lesson learned.
- Metal roof here too, but even those can get dinged up. I still snap pics after every big wind, just in case.
- Quarterly is overkill, but honestly, it’s less hassle than fighting with adjusters later.

I swear, every time I think I’ve figured out what the insurance folks want, they add another hoop. Last year it was “clear photos,” now it’s “show us the date and time,” and I’m just waiting for them to ask for a selfie with the roof. I manage a few places and honestly, after one adjuster tried to claim my hail pics were “too blurry,” I started using my phone’s burst mode like I’m at a sporting event. Metal roofs are tough but yeah, even those get dings—hail doesn’t discriminate. Quarterly photos feel like overkill, but it’s less stressful than arguing with someone who’s never seen your house in person. Anyone else ever get asked for video walkarounds, or is that just me?
