I get the point about early checks, but honestly, sometimes you can overdo it. I used to stress about every little spot or smell, and half the time it was just normal seasonal stuff. Not saying ignore issues, but a little patience can save you from tearing things up for no reason. Foot traffic’s tricky though—my kids love climbing up there, and I swear that’s done more damage than any weather.

I get what you mean about over-checking. I used to freak out every time I saw a bit of moss or a weird stain on my roof, especially when I started looking into green roofs. Ended up pulling up a few shingles for nothing—just made more work for myself. Now I do a quick visual check once a season, unless there’s been a big storm. And yeah, my kids treat the roof like a jungle gym too... honestly, their boots have done way more scuffing than any rain or snow. Sometimes it’s just about finding that middle ground between being careful and not driving yourself nuts.

I hear you on the over-checking. I used to get paranoid about every little patch of moss, thinking it meant disaster. Truth is, half the time it’s just cosmetic. I spent money on “preventative” fixes that didn’t do much except lighten my wallet. Now, unless there’s a real leak or obvious damage, I just keep an eye out and try not to stress. Funny enough, my neighbor’s kids did more damage with their Nerf wars up there than any weather ever did... Sometimes you just have to accept a little wear and tear if you want to keep your sanity (and your budget) intact.

- Totally agree, not every spot of moss is a crisis.

“I spent money on ‘preventative’ fixes that didn’t do much except lighten my wallet.”

Seen this a lot—sometimes folks get upsold on stuff they don’t actually need.
- One thing with green roofs: you’ll get more growth, but as long as drainage is solid and no leaks, it’s usually fine.
- I always tell people, a little wear is normal. If the structure’s sound, don’t sweat every patch or mark.
- Funny how “Nerf wars” do more harm than storms... had a client with a dented vent pipe from a soccer ball. Sometimes it’s just life.

- Seen the “preventative” upsell a lot—half the time, it’s just fancy moss killer or a service you could skip.
- Had a client once who panicked over a few green patches; turned out the real problem was their gutter was clogged, not the moss itself. Drainage is the big one, like you said.
- I’ve noticed with green roofs, people stress over every weed or bit of growth, but honestly? Unless you’re seeing water stains inside or soft spots underfoot, it’s usually cosmetic.
- Minor dents and dings—kids’ toys, branches, whatever—are often what I see causing more fuss than actual storms. Wind will lift shingles, sure, but a frisbee can knock a vent cap loose just as easily.
- Not saying ignore everything, but if you’re checking for leaks and keeping drainage clear, most of the time you’re ahead of the game. Over-maintaining can do more harm than good sometimes... seen folks scrub so hard they wear down the membrane faster than nature would’ve.
