I'm planning on setting up a rooftop garden at my place—mostly veggies, herbs, and maybe a few flowers for pollinators. Thing is, I'm realizing I can't just toss regular garden soil up there and call it a day. Apparently, it's too heavy or something? I've seen some stuff online about special lightweight soils or mixes, but honestly, it's kinda overwhelming.

Does anyone have experience with mixing their own rooftop soil blend? Or is it better to just buy a premade mix from a gardening center? I'd rather not spend a fortune, but I also don't wanna mess up my roof structure or have sad plants that won't grow properly. Any tips or advice would be awesome...and if you've got any funny stories about rooftop gardening gone wrong, I'm all ears, haha.

Haha, rooftop gardens gone wrong...I've seen a few disasters in my line of work. You're right about regular soil—way too heavy. A lightweight mix is definitely the way to go. Premade isn't cheap, but honestly, it'll save you headaches later. Good luck, sounds awesome!
