The flashlight crawl saved my butt more than once too, haha. Another quick trick I use is the screwdriver test—just gently poke around suspect areas from underneath. If the tip sinks in easily or flakes come off, you've got trouble brewing. And yeah, mold's a sneaky little sign; caught a patch early in mine last spring and avoided a full tear-off job...thank goodness. Better a quick fix now than playing catch-up later.
