White coatings sound great on paper, but in practice, they just don’t last in our weather.

- "White coatings sound great on paper, but in practice, they just don’t last in our weather." — man, you nailed it. I’ve seen more flaking white roofs than I care to count.
- Prep feels like a slog, but skipping it is like duct-taping a boat... sure, it floats for a minute.
- If you made it through cleaning and still had the energy to actually finish the edging, you deserve a medal. Or at least a cold drink.
- Weather here eats shortcuts for breakfast. You’re not alone.

- I get the doubts about white coatings, but I’ve seen a couple in my neighborhood last 5+ years with regular touch-ups.

True, but I feel like with enough prep and the right product, it’s not a total lost cause.
- Maybe it’s just luck, but I’m not totally writing them off yet.

- That “weather eats shortcuts for breakfast” line hits home. I’ve watched a few neighbors repaint their metal trims every couple years, but one guy down the street swears by a certain primer and his still looks decent after 6 years.
- Anyone here tried the cheaper coatings vs the high-end ones? I’m always tempted by the price difference, but worried about having to redo it sooner.
- Is it mostly about the prep work, or does the brand really matter long-term? I’d rather not spend double if I don’t have to...
