Lowered my insurance bill after a roof inspection—anyone else surprised?

Funny how much it can depend on your area and even the insurance company’s mood that day.

That’s honestly what gets me. I’m in a spot where neighbors with the same roof type (asphalt shingles, nothing fancy) got totally different results after inspections. One guy down the street barely saved anything, while another saw a big drop. Makes me wonder—does age of the roof matter more than condition, or is it just random? Curious if anyone’s had luck arguing their case when the first offer was low.

- Definitely seeing the same thing here—my neighbor’s roof is just a year older than mine, but his rate barely budged after inspection.
- From what I’ve gathered, age seems to matter more than actual condition, at least with my insurer.
- I did push back when my discount was tiny. Sent photos, maintenance records, even receipts for repairs... they bumped it up a bit, but not as much as I’d hoped.
- Honestly feels like there’s a lot of randomness, or maybe it depends on who reviews your file that day.
- Frustrating when you do everything right and still get a meh result.

I actually had a different experience—my insurer seemed to care more about the actual repairs than the roof’s age. I sent in a bunch of photos after patching up some storm damage, and they gave me a pretty decent discount. Maybe it just depends on the company or even the adjuster you get... but I wouldn’t say it’s always random.

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. My buddy had a roof that looked like it’d been through a blender, but his insurer barely blinked because he’d just fixed the worst spots. Meanwhile, my place is only a few years old and they still grilled me about every tiny thing. Guess it’s a bit of a roll of the dice—sometimes you get the “roof detective” adjuster, sometimes you get the chill one who just wants to see you tried. Insurance roulette, basically.

Had a similar experience last year, actually. My house is only about five years old, and I figured the inspection would be a breeze. Instead, the adjuster was super thorough—checked every shingle, asked about the type of underlayment, even wanted to see photos from when it was installed. Meanwhile, my neighbor’s roof is way older and he barely got a glance. Makes me wonder if it’s just the luck of the draw or if certain companies have stricter protocols. Either way, it definitely doesn’t feel consistent.
