Had a similar issue when we first moved into our place. Kept noticing this weird draft in the upstairs bathroom and couldn't figure out why the heat wouldn't stay in during winter. Finally got up in the attic and saw daylight shining around the vent pipe—wasn't sealed at all. Took a $10 tube of roof sealant and about 15 minutes to fix it myself, problem solved. It's crazy how something so small can affect your comfort levels (and heating bills). Always worth checking those hidden spots before assuming it's something major. Glad you found a roofing company that treated you right though; good contractors are gold these days.

Couldn't agree more with this. A few years back, I was inspecting a client's house who had similar complaints—cold drafts, sky-high heating bills, the works. They were convinced they needed all new insulation or even a total roof replacement. Turned out, after poking around in the attic for just ten minutes, there was a gap in the flashing around their chimney you could practically stick your hand through. Crazy how often something simple gets overlooked and people jump to expensive fixes first.

Glad you sorted yours out easily, DIY is definitely satisfying when it's something straightforward like that. But yeah, finding a trustworthy roofing company can be tough these days... seems like half my clients have horror stories about contractors who tried to upsell them on unnecessary repairs. Good ones really are worth their weight in gold.

Haha, ain't that the truth... I once spent a whole weekend convinced I had a major plumbing disaster. Turns out my kid had just left the garden hose running outside for two days straight—talk about facepalm moments. Glad you found someone reliable though, good roofers are like unicorns these days, rare and magical creatures indeed.

Glad you sorted it out, but honestly, I wouldn't say good roofers are that rare. Maybe it's more about knowing what questions to ask upfront? I've found that being thorough with research and clear about expectations usually weeds out the sketchy ones pretty quickly.

- Agreed, good roofers aren't unicorns, but they're not exactly everywhere either.
- I've seen plenty of cases where even thorough research didn't catch red flags until halfway through the job.
- Asking about insurance coverage, warranty specifics, and references upfront definitely helps.
- But honestly, sometimes it's just luck... had a neighbor meticulously vet contractors and still ended up with leaks after a storm.
- Being thorough reduces risk, but doesn't eliminate it completely.
