Totally get your point about green roofs needing proper prep—seen my share of soggy messes from rushed installs too. But honestly, when they're done right, they're pretty amazing. Had mine for about five years now, and aside from the occasional weed-pulling session (which doubles as therapy, lol), it's been smooth sailing. Plus, the insulation and cooling benefits are legit noticeable. Metal roofs are solid, no doubt—but there's something uniquely satisfying about having a mini ecosystem overhead...just gotta find the right contractor who knows their stuff.

Exactly—did your contractor mention anything about drainage layers or root barriers? Inspected a place last month where they skipped that step...let's just say the homeowner wasn't thrilled with roots poking through the ceiling. Proper prep makes all the difference.

Yeah, proper prep is key, but honestly, I've seen contractors go way overboard with drainage layers and root barriers when they're not even needed. Worked on a job last summer where the homeowner insisted on every possible precaution—ended up costing them a fortune for zero benefit. It's all about balance and knowing what's actually necessary for your specific roof type and climate. Glad you found someone trustworthy though...that's half the battle right there.

Exactly this. I've seen people get talked into all sorts of unnecessary extras—sometimes contractors push it, sometimes homeowners insist out of anxiety. Good on you for finding someone who knows the difference...rare these days.

- Totally relate to this...had a similar experience when I first got into green roofing.
- Contractor tried selling me on a bunch of fancy drainage systems and insulation layers that weren't even suited to our mild climate.
- Ended up chatting with someone who actually knew their stuff, and turns out half that stuff was unnecessary.
- Glad you found someone trustworthy—makes all the difference.
