That’s the most annoying part—just when you think you’ve found the culprit, the water’s coming from somewhere else entirely. I tried a moisture meter too, but honestly, unless you’re ready to rip things up, it’s mostly guesswork. I’m on the fence about infrared cameras... they’re pricey and not always conclusive unless you know what you’re looking at. Personally, I’d rather pay a pro for a leak detection visit than gamble with expensive gear or start pulling up membranes. Sometimes spending a bit upfront saves way more headache in the long run.“water just loves to travel sideways under the membrane.”
That sideways water thing is the bane of my existence. Had a leak in my sunroom last year—swore it was coming from the skylight, so I caulked the heck out of it. Nope. Turns out the water was sneaking in from a seam like eight feet away. I tried the whole “trace it back” routine, but honestly, unless you’ve got x-ray vision, it’s just a guessing game. Ended up calling a leak detection guy and, yeah, it wasn’t cheap, but he found it in under an hour. Sometimes you just gotta pay for peace of mind... or at least to keep your ceiling from looking like a topographical map.
