"partial coverage or DIY modular trays can significantly reduce upfront expenses."

Definitely agree with this—DIY trays are a lifesaver if you're handy (or brave enough to pretend you are, like me). I helped a buddy set up sedum trays on his garage roof last summer. Honestly, hardest part was hauling them up the ladder without dropping 'em. Just make sure your roof can handle the weight, even if it's smaller scale. Nothing ruins your eco-friendly vibe faster than an unexpected skylight...

I'm still a bit skeptical about DIY trays, to be honest. I mean, sure, they're budget-friendly and all, but I've seen enough "easy" home projects turn into weekend-long disasters to keep my expectations in check. That said, your experience does make it sound doable—especially if the toughest part was just getting them up there without dropping them.

I guess my main hesitation is durability. How well do these trays actually hold up over time with extreme weather? I'd hate to put in all that effort only to have them blow away in the first big storm or something. But if they really do stand up to harsh conditions and help protect the roof, then maybe it's worth giving it a shot. Either way, props for tackling it yourself—I'm still working up the courage for anything beyond painting walls...

Haha, trust me, I've seen my fair share of DIY roofing "masterpieces" scattered across lawns after a good gust. But honestly, if you secure them properly and use decent materials, they hold up surprisingly well. Helped a buddy install some trays a couple years back—he's had hail, windstorms, even a freak snowstorm—and they're still hanging tough. Just don't skimp on fasteners...or patience.

Exactly—fasteners are key. But also, have you considered adding some wind barriers or strategically placed shrubs? I've seen homes where landscaping alone made a huge difference in reducing wind impact...might be worth looking into.

Landscaping definitely helps, but honestly, shrubs alone might not cut it during severe storms. My neighbor had beautiful hedges, but a big gust still took out his shed roof. Maybe pairing greenery with structural reinforcements would be safer in the long run...
