Totally agree—awkward beats expensive every time. Learned that the hard way with our kitchen cabinets:
- Paid upfront chunks thinking it'd speed things up (spoiler: nope).
- Realized halfway through the color was off...like "hospital waiting room beige" off.
- Had to have that cringey convo to fix it, but at least we caught it early enough.

Lesson learned: paying as you go is smart, but only if you're ready for some uncomfortable chats along the way...

I get the logic behind paying in chunks, but honestly, it can be a double-edged sword. We did something similar with our bathroom remodel—thought we were being smart by spacing payments out. But halfway through, the contractor started juggling multiple jobs, and our timeline went out the window. Had to have a few awkward "status update" chats to get things back on track. So yeah, chunk payments can save headaches, but only if you're prepared to stay on top of every little detail...

Exactly this. I've done it both ways—chunks and upfront—and honestly, chunk payments work best if you're ready to micromanage a bit. Otherwise, things can slip... speaking from experience here, unfortunately.

I've noticed chunk payments can actually help tenants budget better, but yeah, it does require extra tracking. Curious if anyone's found specific tools or apps that make managing these smaller payments easier... spreadsheets get messy fast.

I've been doing chunk payments with a couple of tenants for years now—definitely helps them stay on track. Spreadsheets drove me nuts too, honestly. I switched to using Splitwise about a year ago, and it's been a lifesaver. It's technically meant for splitting bills among friends, but works surprisingly well for tracking partial rent payments. Might be worth giving it a shot if you're tired of spreadsheet chaos...
