How often do you actually get your business roof checked?

Yeah, that lines up with what I see a lot. If the roof’s still pretty new and you’re not in a spot with a ton of tree debris or wild weather, once a year plus after big storms is usually fine. I’ve seen folks get paranoid and check every few months, but unless you’ve got a reason, it’s probably just extra work. Just keep an eye out for anything weird—gutters overflowing, odd noises, stuff like that.

- Seen a lot of business owners skip checks for years, then get blindsided by leaks after a hailstorm.
- Had one client with a flat roof—looked fine from the ground, but pooling water was eating away at the membrane. Only caught it because we checked after a big storm.
- I get why people don’t want to overdo it, but if you’re in an area with wild weather, twice a year isn’t overkill.
- Gutters overflowing is usually the first red flag I see before bigger problems show up.
- Honestly, most issues I find are from folks waiting too long between inspections... not from checking too often.

That’s spot on. I’ve learned the hard way—ignored my gutters for a year and ended up with water backing up under the shingles after a heavy rain. Had to replace a chunk of fascia board, which wasn’t cheap. Curious if anyone’s actually set reminders for roof checks? I started putting it in my calendar every spring and fall, but sometimes it still slips by... Wondering if folks stick to a schedule or just wait for obvious signs?

- Totally get it—

“sometimes it still slips by...”
—same here. Even with reminders, life gets in the way.
- I try to stick to spring and fall checks, but honestly, if we get a big storm or heavy winds, I’ll do a quick walk-around after too.
- Noticed that catching clogged downspouts early saves a lot of hassle (and money) later.
- For me, setting a recurring phone alert helps more than calendar notes. Less chance I’ll ignore it.
- Don’t beat yourself up if you miss one—just catching issues before they snowball is already a win.

- Gotta admit, I’m more of a “when it rains inside, it’s time to check the roof” kind of person... not proud of it, but hey, budgets are tight.
- My place has an old flat roof (the joys of 1970s construction), so I try to do a quick look-over after heavy rain or if I hear weird dripping sounds. Not exactly scientific, but it’s saved me from a couple surprise leaks.
- Downspouts—yes! One year I ignored them and ended up with a mini waterfall in my storage room. Lesson learned: clogged gutters = wallet pain.
- Tried calendar reminders, but they just blend into the chaos. Phone alarms with ridiculous labels like “ROOF OR REGRET?” work better for me.
- Honestly, sometimes I skip a season if things look okay... probably not ideal, but if the roof isn’t screaming for attention and the bank account is looking sad, I risk it. Hasn’t bitten me yet (knock on wood).
- If you’re on a budget like me, just catching stuff early-ish is a win. No shame in being “good enough” instead of perfect.
