Keeping rust at bay when you're near the ocean

I get where you’re coming from - 316 is tough to swallow when you’re buying in bulk. But honestly, I’ve had mixed results with hot-dipped galvanized right on the ocean. Maybe it’s just our spot, but even with regular rinsing, I still see white rust and pitting after a couple years. The coated aluminum for trim is decent, but I’ve seen it corrode at the fastener holes if the installer isn’t careful.

Has anyone tried those bi-metal screws? They’re stainless on the outside but have a hardened steel core for strength. Supposedly you get the corrosion resistance without sacrificing shear strength (or blowing the whole budget). I’m curious if they really hold up long-term or if it’s just marketing hype.

Honestly, sometimes I wonder if it’s less about material and more about maintenance. Even the best stuff seems to need a rinse every so often around here... otherwise, salt just wins eventually.
