I just moved in last fall and honestly, I had no idea gutter guards still let so much stuff through. Rookie mistake, I guess. Do you find spring or fall is worse for buildup? We’ve got a big maple in the front yard and those little helicopters are everywhere... kind of regretting not budgeting for pro cleaning right away.

Those maple seeds are relentless, right? I thought gutter guards would be a one-and-done fix, but nope—those things find their way in. For me, spring is actually worse because the seeds drop all at once and pile up fast. In fall, it’s more gradual with leaves. I ended up setting reminders to check the gutters every couple weeks during seed season. Have you noticed if rain washes any of them through, or do they just sit and clog things up?
Those helicopters are the bane of my spring too. I’ve noticed when we get a heavy rain, some do get flushed through, but most just clump up and sit there, especially at the downspouts. Have you ever tried a leaf blower to clear them off before they get soggy? I find it works if I catch them early, but once they’re wet, it’s a pain.
