when do you usually tackle gutter cleaning?

I usually tackle gutters twice a year—once late fall, once early spring. Tried gutter guards myself, but like you said:

"even the best gutter guards can't handle everything"

Ended up pulling them off after a year because cleaning underneath was worse than just scooping leaves out directly. Now I just grab a ladder and gloves, spend an hour or two, and call it done. Sometimes simpler really is better...

I get your point about gutter guards, but I've found that micro-mesh types actually do cut down on maintenance significantly. Installed them on a property surrounded by pine trees—been two years and haven't had to clean underneath yet. Maybe it's about finding the right type for your specific debris?

Yeah, those micro-mesh guards can be a lifesaver. I had regular covers on mine at first, but the finer debris from our oak trees always managed to slip through—super frustrating. Switched to micro-mesh about three years ago and honestly, haven't looked back since. Still peek up there now and then out of habit, but it's way less hassle overall. Guess you're right about matching guard types to the trees around your house...

- Totally agree on the micro-mesh guards—just installed mine last fall and it's been a huge relief.
- We have pine trees nearby, and those needles were driving me nuts slipping through regular covers.
- Still find myself glancing up after storms, but so far, nothing major to clean.
- One thing I noticed though, heavy rain sometimes causes water to overshoot the gutters a bit...maybe it's just my setup?
- Overall though, way better than climbing ladders every few weeks.

- Micro-mesh guards are definitely handy, but they're not always a perfect solution.

I've seen this happen quite a bit during inspections—especially if the mesh is installed flat rather than angled slightly.
- Might be worth checking your gutter pitch too...sometimes even a minor adjustment helps with overflow.
- Still beats constant ladder trips though, no argument there.
