Yeah, same thought crossed my mind when I bought my place last year. Ended up sticking with asphalt shingles for budget reasons, but now kinda wish I'd splurged on metal. Had a nasty snowstorm last winter—spent way too many mornings scraping snow off the roof edges to prevent ice dams. Your neighbor's right about snow sliding off metal roofs...would've saved me some chilly mornings for sure. If you can swing it, might be worth it long-term.
