Totally agree on the flashing tape—it's been a lifesaver for me too. When I first moved into my place, I underestimated how crucial surface prep was and ended up redoing the job twice. Lesson learned: always spend extra time cleaning and prepping surfaces before sealing anything. As for the green roof idea, it does sound appealing, but I'm with you...my indoor succulents barely survive, so rooftop gardening might be pushing my luck.

Haha, I feel you on the succulent struggle—my aloe plant looks like it's plotting its escape every time I walk by. But honestly, a green roof might not be as intimidating as it sounds. A buddy of mine installed one last summer, and he swears it's way easier than keeping houseplants alive. Apparently, once it's set up with the right drainage and hardy plants (think sedums or native grasses), it pretty much takes care of itself—no watering schedule needed. Plus, he says it made a noticeable difference in his home's insulation.

Not saying I'm about to climb up and start gardening on my roof tomorrow...but hey, if it means fewer leaks and lower heating bills, maybe it's worth considering? Or at least worth bribing a friend with pizza to help install it.

Green roofs can definitely be great, but have you considered the extra weight it adds to your roof structure? I've seen a couple of cases where homeowners jumped into it without checking if their roof could handle the load, and it turned into a pricey fix later on. Maybe worth double-checking with someone who knows structural stuff first? Could save you from trading skylight leaks for bigger headaches down the road...
